Overview

Expertise. Commitment. Speed. We perceive more than just agreements.

Position: Lead Cost Consultant

Location: Edinburgh

Challenges. Prospects. Solutions. At Robertson Group, we approach them from our unique perspective. We are audacious enough to inquire, courageous enough to view things from a different angle, and confident enough to be authentic. By joining us, you will become part of the UK's largest family-owned construction, infrastructure, and support services enterprise. As a Lead Cost Consultant, you will be integral to a team that is achieving remarkable outcomes - for ourselves, for the surrounding built environment, and for a genuinely sustainable future.

Your New Role

About the Role

As a Lead Cost Consultant, your responsibilities will include:

  • Collaborating with the operational management team to provide guidance on all matters related to contractual and commercial issues.
  • Maintaining precise financial control systems and delivering monthly reports on Cost/Value Reconciliation.
  • Advising on all financial aspects of contracts, ensuring that valuations are optimized, certified, and paid punctually.
  • Overseeing site progress and proactively issuing necessary notices in line with contractual procedures and timelines.
  • Preparing forecasts of costs and values across all trades, including preliminaries, and monitoring and reporting on these.
  • Developing preliminaries budgets in conjunction with contract personnel, while monitoring and reporting on the same.
  • Ensuring that all quotations are meticulously vetted and comply with specifications, securing the most competitive bids.
  • Facilitating regular meetings to agree on variations rather than leaving them until the final account stage.
  • Effectively managing subcontractor accounts to enhance contract performance.
  • Supporting the Operations Team as needed, securing labor, materials, and subcontractors to ensure timely and budget-compliant contract completion.
  • Ensuring all work is conducted in accordance with the Company's Health and Safety Policy and Quality Manual.

About You

You will already possess qualifications and experience in this domain, with a background in budget management and delivering similar services to a high standard. Demonstrable experience in Quantity Surveying within a relevant sector of the construction industry is essential. Equally important are strong communication, sales, and negotiation skills, an analytical mindset, and a genuine ability to establish realistic objectives and resolve key challenges.
