Scotland, United Kingdom Robertson Group Full time

Overview

Expertise. Commitment. Momentum. We perceive more than just agreements.

Position: Lead Cost Estimator

Location: Edinburgh

Challenges. Prospects. Solutions. At Robertson Group, we view them through our unique lens. We are audacious enough to inquire. Courageous enough to approach matters differently. Confident enough to express our true selves. By joining us, you will become part of the UK's largest family-owned construction, infrastructure, and support services organization. As a Lead Cost Estimator, you will contribute to a team that is achieving remarkable outcomes - for ourselves, for the built environment, and for a genuinely sustainable future.

Your New Role

Role Overview

As a Lead Cost Estimator, your responsibilities will include:

  • Collaborating with the operational management team and providing guidance on all matters related to Contract and Commercial concerns.
  • Maintaining precise financial control systems and reporting monthly on Cost/Value Reconciliation.
  • Advising on all financial aspects of contracts, ensuring that valuations are optimized, certified, and disbursed punctually.
  • Overseeing site progress and taking the initiative to issue necessary notices in line with contract protocols and timelines.
  • Preparing forecasts of costs and values for all trades, including Preliminaries, and monitoring and reporting on the same.
  • Developing Preliminaries budgets in collaboration with contract personnel, and monitoring and reporting on the same.
  • Ensuring that all quotations are thoroughly reviewed and adhere to specifications, securing the most competitive bids.
  • Facilitating regular meetings to agree on variations rather than leaving them until the final account stage.
  • Effectively managing subcontractor accounts to enhance contract performance.
  • Supporting the Operations Team as needed, securing labor, materials, and subcontractors to ensure timely and budget-compliant contract completion.
  • Ensuring that all work is conducted in accordance with the Company's Health and Safety Policy & Quality Manual.

About You

You will already possess qualifications and experience in this domain, with a background in budget management and delivering comparable services to a high standard. Demonstrable experience in Quantity Surveying within a relevant sector of the construction industry is essential. Equally important are strong communication, negotiation, and analytical skills, along with a genuine ability to establish realistic objectives and address key challenges.
