Position Overview

Role Responsibilities

The Lead Cinematic Layout Artist will be tasked with developing camera compositions, staging, and blocking, as well as shot layouts for Game Cinematics and various full CG projects. Close collaboration with Directors, Clients, and other creatives is essential to realize and enhance their artistic vision. Candidates should exhibit a strong grasp of visual storytelling through movement, framing, and composition. This role will involve hands-on engagement with traditional VFX workflows, Realtime DCCs, and Virtual Production, tailored to project needs. The artist will work in close conjunction with Technicolor's Directors, Animators, Previz, and Layout artists while also demonstrating the ability to work autonomously.

This position reports directly to the Heads of CG. Additionally, collaboration with Technicolor's international offices will occur for larger projects. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of cameras, lenses, and cinematography, both in practical and CG contexts. They may assume the role of lead artist or supervisor depending on project scope. Comfort with utilizing a VFX Production Pipeline, providing constructive feedback, and accepting internal and external critiques is vital.

Familiarity with real-time engines, particularly Unreal Engine, Unity, and Frostbite, is highly desirable.

Local Reporting: Heads of CG

Collaborates With: Directors, Creative Directors, CG Supervisors, VFX Supervisors, CG HODs, CG Artists, Producers, and Coordinators

Core Responsibilities:

Create and oversee shot framing, blocking, and layout for full CG projects. Operate within a VFX or Realtime Pipeline utilizing both hand animation and virtual production/mocap. Exhibit exceptional understanding of various cameras, lenses, and composition. Work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Collaborate with CG and Realtime artists to achieve high-quality final images. Engage in meetings with teams across various locations. Partner with Directors, Creative Directors, CG Supervisors, VFX Supervisors, and HODs to ensure all deliverables meet high standards and specific project requirements.

Qualifications

8+ years of experience in production. 5+ years of experience in CG camera animation. Must be a proactive and self-motivated creative problem solver. Experience in Virtual Production is advantageous. Practical Cinematography experience is a plus. Proficient in Maya and other 3D software. Familiarity with Realtime projects is beneficial. Ability to adapt to new pipelines and continuously seek improvements. Proven capability to collaborate with clients and achieve diverse visual styles.
