Role Overview

Active Leeds provides a variety of swimming lessons, including adult and child sessions, a comprehensive Learn to Swim Program, disability lessons, adult classes, lifesaving, diving, and competitive swimming. You will have the opportunity to contribute to these programs while developing your skills and exploring new aquatic avenues.

As our next Casual Aquatic Instructor, you will share your swimming expertise in a creative manner that motivates our swimmers to excel and enjoy water activities safely.

This role is essential to our Active Leeds Learn to Swim Program, which boasts a strong team of swimming instructors dedicated to providing opportunities for all participants to engage in swimming lessons.

Job Purpose

  • To deliver the Leeds Learn to Swim Program as directed by the Sport and Active Recreation service.
  • To promote swimming development throughout the city.
  • To provide opportunities for all participants to reach their highest potential.

Key Responsibilities

  • To engage in coaching and teaching swimming, enabling participants to achieve their full potential.
  • To conduct sessions professionally, adhering to City Council and National Governing Body codes of conduct.
  • To ensure a fun and enjoyable experience for all participants.
  • To perform administrative tasks related to program work, including teaching plans, class registers, and evaluations.
  • To comply with council policies, including Equal Opportunities, Child Protection, and Health and Safety.
  • To promote and support Equal Opportunities and Health & Safety.
  • To undertake any other duties as directed by the supervisor, within the scope of your role.

Qualifications

  • Hold the ASA/UKCC Level 2 Swimming Teachers Award or an equivalent qualification.

Essential Requirements

  • Effective communication skills with a diverse range of individuals.
  • Ability to adapt to individual needs and various work situations.
  • Flexibility to work as part of a team and independently.
  • Capability to understand and interpret instructions.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate participants in aquatic activities.
  • Knowledge of Risk Assessments and Health and Safety guidelines.
  • Relevant understanding of Child Protection and welfare issues.
  • Experience in teaching/coaching swimming across all age groups.

Desirable Requirements

  • Possession of the National Rescue Award or equivalent.
  • Completion of the foundation module of the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification.
  • Experience working with swimming camps or school swimming programs.
