Position Overview
The Genomics and Molecular Medicine division at Nottingham University Hospitals Trust is in search of a dedicated, organized, and proactive individual to become a part of our committed and welcoming Genomic Technologist Team as a Laboratory Support Technician.
The role of a Laboratory Support Technician encompasses a variety of responsibilities, including the collection of biological samples from diverse locations, management of specimen receipt and referrals, administrative duties such as data entry, inventory management, and a range of technical tasks including DNA/RNA extraction and general laboratory maintenance.
The ideal candidate will possess strong motivation, excellent communication abilities, and proficient IT skills, with a keen eye for detail to ensure adherence to established procedures.
While prior experience in an NHS clinical laboratory or familiarity with analytical techniques is advantageous, it is not mandatory as comprehensive training will be provided. A solid educational background is required, with GCSEs (Grade A-C) or equivalent in English, Maths, and Science.
Please note that interviews will be conducted in person, as there will be a practical component to the selection process.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Receiving samples and accurately entering patient and sample information into the laboratory information systems.
- Performing various laboratory maintenance tasks, including regular defrosting of laboratory fridges and freezers, cleaning laboratory glassware, and sanitizing laboratory spaces.
- Managing stock control processes for laboratory supplies.

Essential Qualifications and Skills
Training & Qualifications
- GCSE grade C or above in Maths, English, and Science.
Experience
- Basic computer proficiency.
- Demonstrated organizational skills and a methodical approach to tasks.
Communication and Interpersonal Skills
- Strong teamwork capabilities.
- Ability to communicate clearly and accurately, both verbally and in writing.
