About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Database Architect to join our team at Markel International Services Ltd. As a key member of our Managed Services Database Team, you will provide technical direction and expertise for enterprise SQL and Oracle environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, document, engineer, and implement database infrastructure solutions.
  • Work with Application Support teams to gather self-service requirements and design processes to automate and improve current requests.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and assist the Database Services Manager in providing team members with the necessary information.
  • Build positive relationships with Markel's Data Services, Data Backbone, and other data providers within Markel's application organizations.
  • Partner with database engineers to understand operational procedures and identify and remediate bottlenecks in processes.
  • Standardize processes for migrations, refreshes, clones, backup solutions, encryption, and automate patching.
  • Partner with architecture to evaluate, recommend, and select new software.
  • Perform change management using standard tools and ensure conformance and compliance with existing system standards.
  • Work with database engineers to create Azure templates and images to allow faster provisioning of databases.
Requirements
  • Microsoft or Oracle certification preferred.
  • ITIL Certification or experience working in an ITIL environment preferred. TOGAF is a plus.
  • Experience delivering projects of scale and migrating database systems to Microsoft Azure.
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL, SSRS, SSIS, and SSAS required. Any exposure to Oracle RDBMS 11g, 12c, 19c, Oracle RMAN preferred. Experience with Nutanix Era/NDB a plus.
  • Understanding of Relational Database Management System architecture and how it relates to the organization's application landscape.
  • Understanding of backup and restore processes required. Knowledge of Dell DDBoost or Veeam a plus.
  • Participate in after-hours critical production support if required.
