About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Family Liaison Officer to join our team at Long-term Teachers Ltd. As a key member of our pastoral and safeguarding team, you will play a vital role in maintaining the Early Help offer of our school, supporting the Designated Safeguarding Lead, and forming key relationships with families that require additional support.

Main Responsibilities
  • Act as a Link between School and Home: Work closely with professionals to provide a seamless transition between school and home, ensuring that families receive the support they need.
  • Manage Case Load and Keep Records: Develop and maintain accurate records of all conversations, telephone calls, meetings, and actions undertaken, ensuring that families receive timely and effective support.
  • Develop and Maintain Good Relationships with Families: Build and maintain strong relationships with families, providing them with the support and guidance they need to overcome challenges.
  • Provide One-to-One and Group Support for Parents: Offer tailored support to parents, helping them to develop the skills and confidence they need to support their children.
  • Provide Information, Explanation, Guidance, and Signposting: Proactively provide parents with information, explanation, guidance, and signposting about local agencies, services, and organizations that can support them.
  • Support Families with Completion of Forms: Assist families with the completion of forms, such as transport applications, DLA, and free school meals.
  • Support Families in Developing Strategies and Interventions: Work with families to develop a range of strategies and interventions that complement those used in school, helping them to overcome challenges and achieve their goals.
  • Attend and Convene Multi-Agency Meetings: Attend, convene, or support the coordination of relevant multi-agency meetings, ensuring that families receive the support they need.
  • Attend Meetings and Feedback to Senior Leadership Team: Attend meetings as relevant and provide feedback to the Senior Leadership Team and other professionals as appropriate.
  • Attend Pupils' Annual Review/Education, Health and Care Plan Meetings: Attend pupils' annual review/Education, Health and Care Plan meetings as appropriate, offering advice and information to parents.
  • Organize Regular Parents' Groups: Organize regular parents' groups, providing opportunities for parents to meet with professionals from health or social care or other agencies.
  • Facilitate, Lead, or Organize Workshops and Training: Facilitate, lead, or organize workshops and training for parents, helping them to develop the skills and confidence they need to support their children.
  • Organize Information Events: Organize information events from other agencies, providing parents with access to a range of services and support.
  • Liaise with Members of the Multi-Disciplinary Team: Liaise with members of the multi-disciplinary team, ensuring that families receive the support they need.
  • Develop Work and the FLW Role in Line with Priorities in the School Development Plan: Develop work and the FLW role in line with priorities in the school development plan, ensuring that families receive the support they need.
  • Participate in the School's Staff Development Programme: Participate in the school's staff development programme, identifying own training needs in conjunction with the pastoral lead and taking responsibility for own continued professional development.
  • Observe All School Policies: Observe all school policies, including Safeguarding/Child Protection, Health and Safety, Manual Handling, Physical Intervention, Behaviour, Confidentiality, and Acceptable Usage.
  • Undergo Training to Act as a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead: Undergo training to act as a deputy designated safeguarding lead alongside members of the Senior Leadership Team.
  • Establish a Rapport with Pupils: Establish a rapport with pupils to help develop their social, emotional, physical, and intellectual potential.
  • Organize, Plan, Deliver, and Evidence Suitable Interventions: Organize, plan, deliver, and evidence suitable interventions, such as ELSA, Therabuild, sessions with pupils who require emotional support to demonstrate impact of intervention.
About You

We are looking for someone who is dedicated, conscientious, and caring, someone who is able to use initiative, but enjoys being part of a team. You will have at least 2 years of experience within the field, in addition to a strong understanding of specialist education.

Essential that you:

  • NNEB, BTEC, NVQ level 3 or equivalent (or commenced studying for the above qualification)
  • Worked with children and families
  • An understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures
  • Experience of working with multi-agency professionals
  • Experience of making and maintaining records
  • Knowledge of organizations and groups that are available to support families. Awareness of SEN legislation
  • Ability to prioritize, plan, and organize own workload and work on own initiative
  • ICT literate and able to log own actions
  • Good organizational skills
  • Ability to deal calmly with challenging situations
