Job Title: Family Health Practitioner

The MOD GP provides primary care and general medical services to military personnel and their families, ensuring that they maintain optimal health and fitness. The role requires delivering high-quality medical care in diverse and sometimes challenging environments, adhering to both MOD and NHS standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Clinical Care: Provide comprehensive primary medical care, including diagnosis, treatment, and management of acute and chronic conditions.
  • Health Assessments: Conduct pre-deployment health assessments, routine health checks, and occupational health evaluations.
  • Emergency Response: Participate in emergency medical response and provide care in field hospitals or operational environments as required.
  • Patient Management: Manage patient records accurately and confidentially, ensuring all medical documentation is up-to-date and compliant with MOD regulations.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other healthcare professionals, including nurses, specialists, and allied health professionals, to deliver integrated care.
  • Medical Advice: Offer medical advice to commanders and other military staff on health-related issues, fitness for duty, and injury prevention.
  • Health Promotion: Engage in health promotion activities and provide education on preventive measures to enhance overall wellbeing.
  • Training: Participate in ongoing professional development and training, including military-specific medical training.
  • Operational Readiness: Maintain readiness for deployment and provide medical support in operational settings as required.
  • Medical Degree: A recognized medical qualification (e.g., MBBS, MD) and full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC).
  • Adaptability: Ability to work effectively in a variety of settings, including both clinical environments and field conditions.
  • Resilience: Capacity to handle the unique challenges of military medicine and maintain high standards of care under pressure.
