London, Greater London, United Kingdom Ashurst Full time

About Ashurst:

To adhere to regulatory and client standards, Ashurst will conduct appropriate vetting of personnel. Upon accepting a job offer, Ashurst, in collaboration with a specialized provider, will perform professional verification and background checks. These assessments are conducted only with consent and in compliance with our legal and regulatory responsibilities.

Department / Role Overview

The Markets & Growth (M&G) team at Ashurst operates in key cities across EMEA, Asia Pacific, and the US. We implement the firm's strategy and foster profitable expansion with a concentrated emphasis on our selected industries, markets, and clientele. Our focus lies in delivering industry solutions and enhancing client experiences, driving campaigns, utilizing client insights, and managing strategic initiatives to meet our clients' requirements.

This pivotal role within the M&G team is designed to bolster the growth and comprehensive integration of the Ashurst Advance & Consulting Division ("AAC"). The individual will be tasked with promoting collaboration, growth, and client engagement concerning strategically significant focus areas for Ashurst in the UK/EMEA market. Close cooperation with key cross-practice partners will be essential to develop, define, and execute the strategy for the AAC team.

The position necessitates close collaboration across the Clients, Markets, and Growth function to adopt a holistic "whole of Firm" approach to our clients.

Core Responsibilities

This role encompasses five primary areas of focus:

Strategic Planning & Execution

Collaborate with other M&G Managers and key cross-practice partners on corporate development for strategically significant focus areas, specifically formulating the regional strategy to optimize revenue growth in alignment with the firm's strategic objectives. Proactively oversee the strategy for strategically significant focus areas, including evaluating the achievement of key performance indicators and agreed commitments. Assist AAC teams in collaborating and driving strategic market-facing initiatives to fulfill the strategic plan goals, assessing progress on implementation.

Opportunity Identification & Management

Leverage market and client insights to stay informed about current and emerging trends and issues affecting the market. Identify areas of client need and opportunities for lead generation, aiming to deepen client relationships and enhance market penetration. Support the opportunity pursuit process, which includes identifying opportunities, managing opportunity tracking processes, preparing client-focused sales strategies and materials, and coordinating partners around pipelines and strategic pursuits (including go/no-go decisions), working closely with the Global Pursuits team to contribute to bids and proposals. Develop and execute integrated revenue-generating and profile-raising campaigns and thought leadership, collaborating with other specialists (e.g., Go-to-Market Innovation, Brand, Communications, Expertise, etc.). Act as a connector across practices and industries, collaborating with Practice Heads to identify and map out key opportunities related to impactful areas of law for the market. Utilize firm-wide thought leadership to enhance engagement for AAC.

Client Development & Management

Collaborate seamlessly with Client Relationship Teams to integrate AAC into client account plans, aiming to deepen relationships and drive profitable growth. Work with the team to identify key clients and targets aligned with AAC focus areas, outside of Strategic Client Portfolios or Industry priority client portfolios. Engage in a client-facing capacity and cultivate relationships with key contacts at designated clients. Conduct regular reviews, analyses, and reporting of client financials to support designated client growth. Proactively organize and participate in client listening sessions (including general relationship feedback and specific feedback related to major matters and/or pitches), analyze and share insights, and take responsibility for follow-up actions. Analyze insights gathered within the region to identify trends and opportunities across the regional portfolio.

Region Management

Build, support, and ensure the effectiveness of strategically significant focus areas by facilitating engagement across practices and nurturing relationships with cross-practice partners. Establish and leverage relationships with key market players and associations to enhance market penetration, monitoring return on investment. Support the CMG Initiative budget process, tracking expenditures and capturing return on investment. Facilitate internal communications by sharing regional and client AAC successes. Disseminate market knowledge across the broader CMG team and contribute to functional and firm-wide training programs. Ensure compliance with data capture requirements (e.g., relevant directory and award submissions, etc.). Contribute to broader CMG team projects, including supporting new systems and processes as necessary.

Risk and Control

Ensure that all activities and responsibilities are executed in full compliance with our regulatory requirements and internal policies.

Essential Skills and Experience

Prior experience in a professional services business development environment. Proven experience in coaching teams and managing significant projects and/or initiatives. Commercial awareness and an innovative mindset for developing and evolving operational methodologies. Strong interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to cultivate trusting relationships with both the partnership and business services. Enthusiastic and proactive, capable of meeting tight deadlines and managing multiple projects and activities. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage with peers and influence internal clients, including senior stakeholders. Ability to synthesize information to identify opportunities and resolve complex challenges. Strategic thinker with a strong emphasis on execution. Collaborative and highly effective in working as part of a team. Previous experience in a client-facing role, including client listening experience. Ability to influence credibly and effectively at all organizational levels with a strong executive presence.
