Position: Mechanical Handling Project Lead

We are currently seeking a skilled Mechanical Handling Project Lead to oversee a pioneering initiative within the energy sector, focusing on advanced power generation technologies.

This role presents a unique opportunity for professionals eager to engage in a transformative project.

As the Mechanical Handling Project Lead, you will report to the Senior Manager for Installation Components and will be responsible for the comprehensive development of integrated technical solutions and governance related to Reactor Island Mechanical Handling systems.

Your leadership will extend across the entire product scope identified within the commodity group, necessitating a flexible and adaptive approach to evolving project requirements.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in mechanical equipment design, demonstrating a successful track record in managing large-scale, complex projects while exhibiting exceptional people management skills.

You will lead the Reactor Island mechanical handling team, ensuring effective collaboration across various business functions to deliver the final product within the power station framework.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering robust design and safety justifications, supported by thorough mechanical analysis and Design for X assessments.
  • Integrating solutions into the overall engineering design and development processes.
  • Providing technical leadership and governance for product development in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Managing the team to ensure comprehensive delivery of through-life mechanical handling solutions.
  • Owning the delivery program for your designated scope and contributing to the creation and management of design milestone schedules and budgets.
  • Developing and leading the team to provide necessary technical expertise to support supply chain and procurement strategies.
  • Creating design and product cost estimates while managing technical attributes and contributing to risk registers.
  • Ensuring a qualified workforce through robust training plans and succession planning.
  • Owning the design configuration of products within your area of accountability.
  • Delivering engineering substantiation and safety cases for the agreed scope.

Applicants should have demonstrable experience in the design, manufacture, operation, and maintenance of mechanical handling systems, particularly within a nuclear power context. A comprehensive understanding of the entire product lifecycle is essential for effective leadership.

Additionally, experience in developing conventional and nuclear safety cases, including the definition and categorization of nuclear safety functional requirements, is highly desirable.

Strong supply chain management skills, including oversight of subcontracted work packages, are also required.

Leadership and Team Management:
You will be responsible for developing and managing personnel to achieve both individual and organizational objectives.

Compensation and Benefits:
- Performance-related bonus of up to 12%
- Benefits allowance of £2,200 for a customized package
- Pension contributions of 12% employer and 6% employee
