The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is seeking a dedicated Wage Laborer for the Buckingham Area Headquarters. The selected individual will engage in various manual labor tasks and maintenance activities essential for project success. Key responsibilities include:
• Conducting flagging operations
• Assisting in the establishment of work zones
• Performing strenuous manual labor, including lifting items up to 50 pounds regularly
• Operating and maintaining both hand and power tools
• Handling light to medium machinery
This position is classified as a wage role, limited to a specific number of work hours within a defined period. It is important to note that no state benefits are included with this position.
As essential personnel, the role may require working outside standard hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays during emergency situations.
Minimum Qualifications
• Capability to perform heavy manual labor.
• Proficiency in operating and maintaining light and medium machinery used in highway upkeep and repair.
• Possession of a valid driver's license.
• Familiarity with highway maintenance tools, materials, methods, and procedures.
• Competence in using hand-held and power tools.
• Ability to comprehend and follow both oral and written instructions.
Additional Considerations
• Experience in operating equipment and performing preventive maintenance tasks.
• A combination of training, experience, or education in maintenance, construction, or a related field.
• Background in emergency operations, including snow removal and storm response.
• Experience in roadway maintenance or construction activities.
