Job Description

Procurement Manager

This role is a key position within the Avionics Business Stream of General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada, responsible for leading all components and material-related matters. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing procurement teams to ensure the skills, capability, and processes needed to support the business unit's financial and strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and Coordinate Procurement Team Activities: Ensure successful support of commodity and service procurement requirements of internal customers, primarily manufacturing and development/IRAD.
  • Manage Indirect and Direct Commodity Procurement: Oversee all procurement activities, including negotiation of terms and conditions to ensure the business is legally covered, de-risked, and profitable.
  • Cost Savings and Avoidance: Focus on cost savings through supplier cost negotiation, process improvements, and utilization of AWAR and design to cost processes.
  • Supplier Performance Management: Manage supplier performance regarding Quality, Delivery, and Cost.
  • SCM Risk and Opportunity Management: Manage the SCM risk and opportunity management process to provide an analytical approach to identifying risk, assessing impact, developing mitigation strategies, and understanding trends to predict future risk and opportunities.

Requirements:

  • Strategic Procurement Experience: Proven experience in strategic procurement and subcontract management, ideally in the aerospace, defense, government, or project-driven manufacturing environment.
  • Tactical and Strategic Environments: Ability to work in both tactical environments (achieving current business objectives) and strategic environments (establishing and aligning the team around strategic business objectives).
  • Leadership and Influence: Strong leadership skills, with the ability to influence and manage 'best practice' change implementation of processes and procedures.
  • Communication and Negotiation: Clearly articulate issues and possible solutions, with strong negotiation skills to demonstrate cost savings and margin improvement.
  • Financial Experience: Strong financial experience, with the ability to develop effective metrics.
  • Qualifications: Preferably holding CIPS, APM, or equivalent qualifications.
