Job Overview

The Athletic Training Assistant is responsible for:

- Establishing a supportive, healthy, and secure atmosphere for all student-athletes participating in athletic programs;

- Adhering to the regulations set forth by the Commonwealth of Virginia, National Athletic Trainers Association, and other relevant athletic associations;

- Assisting the organization and/or state authorities during emergency situations as required;

- Performing additional responsibilities as directed by the Associate Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics. Ensuring excellent service to students, faculty, staff, and community members.

Essential Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

- Proficient in delivering first aid, preventive medical care, and rehabilitation services to student-athletes, along with the capability to instruct on self-care practices;

- Competent in understanding, following, and enforcing safety protocols;

- Ability to remain calm and effective in emergency scenarios;

- Capacity to collaborate in a diverse team environment while engaging student-athletes;

- Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to operate a state vehicle for transporting student-athletes;

- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, and travel as necessary;

- Proficient in computer usage;

- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution is required;

- Certification from the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) is mandatory;

- CPR/AED certification is required;

- Must be licensed by the Board of Medicine;

- Commitment to providing excellent customer service to both internal and external stakeholders.

Additional Considerations:

A Master's degree is advantageous.
