Job Overview
The Assistant Athletic Trainer is responsible for:
- Establishing a supportive, healthy, and secure atmosphere for all student-athletes participating in athletic activities;
- Adhering to the guidelines and regulations set forth by the Commonwealth of Virginia, National Athletic Trainers Association, and relevant collegiate athletic associations;
- Assisting the organization and/or state authorities during emergency situations as declared by officials;
- Performing additional responsibilities as directed by the Associate Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics. Ensuring excellent service to students, faculty, staff, and stakeholders.
Essential Qualifications
Skills and Competencies Required:
- Proficient in delivering first aid, preventive medical care, and rehabilitation services to student-athletes, along with the capability to instruct on self-care techniques;
- Ability to comprehend, implement, and enforce safety protocols;
- Must demonstrate the capacity to remain composed and effective in crisis situations;
- Ability to collaborate in a diverse team environment while effectively engaging student-athletes;
- Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to operate a state vehicle for transporting student-athletes;
- Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and travel as required for university-related duties;
- Proficient in computer usage;
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution is mandatory;
- Certification from the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) is required;
- CPR/AED certification is necessary;
- Must be licensed by the Board of Medicine;
- Commitment to providing exceptional customer service both internally and externally.
Additional Notes:
A Master's degree is considered an advantage.
