Job Overview

The Assistant Athletic Trainer is responsible for:

1. Fostering a supportive, healthy, and secure atmosphere for all student-athletes involved in athletic programs;

2. Adhering to the guidelines and standards set forth by the Commonwealth of Virginia, National Athletic Trainers Association, Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA), and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA);

3. Assisting the organization and/or state authorities in the event of an emergency situation declared by the Governor;

4. Performing additional responsibilities as directed by the Associate VP for Intercollegiate Athletics, while ensuring excellent service to students, faculty, staff, and stakeholders.

Essential Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

- Proficient in delivering first aid, preventive medical care, and rehabilitation services to student-athletes, along with the capability to instruct on self-care practices;

- Competent in interpreting, understanding, and enforcing safety protocols;

- Ability to remain composed and effective during emergency situations;

- Capable of collaborating in a diverse team environment while effectively engaging student-athletes;

- Must possess a valid Virginia Driver's License within 60 days of employment and maintain a satisfactory driving record;

- Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and travel for university-related duties as required;

- Proficient in computer usage;

- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is mandatory;

- Certification from the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) is required;

- Certification in CPR/AED is necessary;

- Must be licensed by the Board of Medicine;

- Commitment to providing exceptional customer service both internally and externally.

Additional Considerations:

A Master's degree is advantageous.
