Engineering Projects Manager (internally referred to as Central Engineering Projects Manager)

Role Overview

  • Contribute to the achievement of company goals by ensuring that all machinery, equipment, site services, and facilities are maintained to standards suitable for a food production environment.
  • Actively engage as a member of the Central Engineering Team to enhance internal customer satisfaction, uphold Health and Safety standards, ensure compliance, meet technical specifications, manage capital budgets, achieve performance targets, and drive manufacturing excellence.
  • Capable of delivering a comprehensive range of capital projects within a food manufacturing context, from initial concept through to final handover, utilizing established project management methodologies.
  • Oversee capital expenditure (CAPEX) budgets.
  • Manage, supervise, and monitor the execution of capital projects, coordinating with site teams, manufacturers, suppliers, and contractors to ensure timely and budget-compliant completion. Implement a structured project management framework covering all phases from inception to post-implementation review.
  • This role will focus on construction and civil engineering, managing multiple new builds and expansions across various sites, with budgets ranging from £100k to £30 million.
  • Oversee all internal fit-out and facility requirements for the organization.
  • Collaborate with the legal team to ensure contracts and warranties are appropriate and effective.
  • Ensure that the company's Health and Safety, Environmental, Hygiene, and Communication policies are adhered to by all engineering personnel, emphasizing safe working practices.
  • Guarantee that all necessary testing of equipment and machinery is conducted in accordance with relevant statutory regulations for all new CAPEX-related equipment.
  • Ensure that both contractors and internal staff follow established safety protocols, risk assessments, and standard operating procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies regarding grievances and disciplinary actions, liaising with HR as necessary.
  • Foster effective teamwork, particularly in collaboration with other functions, promoting a unified approach to objectives.
  • Coordinate with factory management teams to ensure contractor activities are well-communicated and understood.

Health & Safety Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with company standards and legal regulations within your area of responsibility.
  • Maintain safe working practices related to Health, Safety, Environment, and Housekeeping, promptly addressing any hazards or unsafe conditions.
  • Conduct critical safety management processes, including:
    • Accident, incident, and near-miss investigations
    • Risk assessment procedures
    • Development of safe systems of work and standard operating procedures
  • Provide guidance and support to Manufacturing, Technical, and other departments.
  • Lead by example to cultivate a culture of behavioral safety.

  • Experience in food manufacturing or FMCG environments is essential.
  • Background in Project and Maintenance Engineering.
  • Awareness of product integrity in a live food production setting.
  • Experience in Project Engineering and Management.
  • Familiarity with Quality Management Systems.
  • Understanding of project management tools.
  • Experience in budget management and forecasting.
  • Knowledge of the Capital Expenditure process.
  • Familiarity with procurement processes.
  • In-depth knowledge of legislative requirements related to Engineering and Food Safety.
