About the Role

The University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon to join our dynamic team. As a key member of our Department of Paediatric Trauma and Orthopaedics, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality care to patients with complex orthopaedic conditions.

Main Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement effective treatment plans for patients with paediatric orthopaedic conditions, including those with complex soft tissue knee injuries.
  • Conduct dedicated afternoon trauma operating lists, Monday to Friday, and participate in shared CEPOD lists for out-of-hours and weekend services.
  • Lead fortnightly follow-up fracture clinics and additional seasonal follow-up fracture elective commitments.
  • Manage weekly elective clinics and 42 elective theatre lists per year.

Person Specification
  • Essential:
    • Full and specialist registration with the General Medical Council (GMC).
    • Fellowship in paediatric orthopaedics of suitable duration.
    • Evidence of first-class professional practice in paediatric trauma and orthopaedics.
    • Ability to take responsibility for delivering service without direct supervision.
  • Desirable:
    • Additional Postgraduate qualification (MD, PhD, MSc) relevant to clinical speciality.
    • Evidence of a special interest and expertise that complements those of other consultants in the department.
    • Experience in frame application for paediatric elective and trauma cases.
Key Skills and Qualities
  • Essential:
    • Up-to-date knowledge and experience of relevant specialty.
    • Ability to practice independently on the on-call trauma rota.
    • Knowledge of NHS priorities with reference to specialty.
    • Ability to make clinical decisions at Consultant level.
  • Desirable:
    • Broad range of IT skills.
    • Fellowship training in subspecialty interest to complement the existing departmental interests.
