The Legal Services Trade team is seeking a permanent SEO Senior Trade Policy Advisor. This role is open to all qualified candidates who meet the eligibility criteria outlined in the broader Civil Service Jobs advertisement.

Location:

Successful candidates will have the flexibility to work from one of the designated locations.

Work Arrangement:

In alignment with the evolving needs of the Policy Group, all staff are expected to attend their designated location at least two days a week. This hybrid working model is not contractual, and staff may be required to attend more frequently.

Flexible Working Options:

  • Full-time, part-time, or job share options available
  • Flexible working hours
  • Adaptable working arrangements between base locations and home

If a larger pool of suitable candidates applies than there are vacancies, we may maintain a reserve list for 12 months, offering future roles to candidates on this list without reopening the competition.

Compensation:

New entrants to the Civil Service will start at the minimum of the pay range. Existing civil servants who successfully transition to this role will receive the better of promotion or transfer terms, or pay on appointment arrangements.

Role Overview:

The Legal Services Trade team plays a pivotal role in supporting the UK legal services sector, which is crucial for both domestic and international trade. This team is responsible for advocating for UK legal services in international trade negotiations and promoting them globally.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead initiatives to overcome market access challenges in legal services and enhance trading relationships.
  • Engage with a diverse range of stakeholders, including foreign governments and legal professionals.
  • Prepare briefings, submissions, and speeches for senior officials and ministers.
  • Oversee a promotional program for legal services in your designated region.
  • Participate in the development and negotiation of international agreements.

Required Skills and Experience:

Essential:

  • Strong stakeholder engagement abilities and relationship-building skills.
  • Proven strategic thinking and policy development capabilities.
  • Ability to deliver clear, evidence-based briefings to senior stakeholders.
  • Effective prioritization and decision-making skills for time-sensitive tasks.

Desirable:

  • Understanding of the justice system and legal services sector.
  • Experience working within the legal services or related professional sectors.
  • Interest in international policy and trade.
  • Experience in policy development.
