Location Options:

Successful candidates may choose to work from one of the following locations:

Some travel between these locations may be necessary.

Compensation:

New hires in the Civil Service will start at the minimum of the pay scale. Current civil servants who successfully transition to this role will receive the higher of:

  • Promotion or transfer terms, as applicable
  • Minimum pay on appointment

Role Overview:

This position will be situated within the Europe team. The successful candidate will be tasked with formulating and executing the MoJ's objectives related to legal services trade, aligned with the broader trade strategy of Her Majesty's Government (HMG). Collaboration with various stakeholders, both within the department and externally, will be essential to achieve these complex policy goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leading policy initiatives to overcome market access challenges in legal services and enhancing trade relations with Europe.
  • Engaging with significant stakeholders, including foreign governments, ministers, and leading legal professionals through various communication channels.
  • Preparing briefings, submissions, and speeches to support senior officials and ministers.
  • Overseeing a promotional program for legal services trade in your designated region.
  • Participating in the negotiation and development of legally binding international agreements and relevant non-legally binding agreements.

Required Skills and Experience:

Essential:

  • Exceptional stakeholder engagement abilities and the capacity to establish relationships swiftly across government and external entities.
  • Proven strategic thinking and policy development skills, with sound judgment capabilities.
  • Ability to provide clear, evidence-based briefings in both written and oral formats on intricate policy matters to senior stakeholders and ministers.
  • Strong prioritization skills and effective decision-making abilities to manage time-sensitive tasks for both immediate and long-term outcomes.

Desirable:

  • Understanding of the justice system and legal services sector.
  • Previous experience working within the legal services sector or similar professional services.
  • Interest in international policy areas supporting HMG's trade agenda.
  • Interest or experience in policy development.
