We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Speech and Language Therapist to join our team at Solent NHS Trust. As a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist, you will play a key role in shaping and developing a highly specialist speech and language therapy role within our Youth Justice team.
Key Responsibilities- Provide specialist knowledge and expertise to support children and young people with speech and language needs within the Youth Justice system.
- Develop and deliver training packages to staff in the Justice sector and Speech and Language Therapy service as required.
- Support and develop skills in others to work with children and young people with speech and language needs in the context of the Justice system.
- Develop a care pathway and procedures within the Youth Justice team and Solent NHS SLT Service to support children and young people with speech and language needs.
- Devise, implement, and analyze outcome measures to monitor the impact of the role within the Youth Justice team.
- Work as an autonomous practitioner, in collaboration with health, education, and justice sector staff, to deliver integrated specialized packages of care to children and young people with speech and language needs.
- Provide specialist clinical advice and recommendations to justice sector staff working with children and young people with speech and language needs.

Qualifications:
- Recognized Speech and Language Therapy degree level qualification or equivalent
- Registered member of the Health and Care Professions Council
- Registered Member of Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists
- Licence to Practice
- Evidence of maintenance of CPD in area of specialism
- Membership of relevant Special Interest Groups
Experience:
- Experience in paediatric therapy, experience working independently with children from clinical pathway
- Experience of working with a broad range of paediatric clinical impairments and disorders using a range of assessment methods as appropriate
- Experience assessing and working with young people aged 12 to 19 years with SLCN
- Experience of clinical supervision of students and others- auditing own and others' clinical practice, in order to act on the findings
- Experience of developing and delivering training
- Experience of staff supervision

- Clear understanding of speech and language therapy service role within the wider context of a child's education and other needs, as well as exercising professional judgement to manage risk appropriately in response to complex and unpredictable events
- Knowledge of the Youth Justice system including terminology, pathways, procedures, and assessments
- Knowledge and application of professional standards & code of conduct
- An understanding of diversity and how it impacts on the Children's Therapy Service
- Ability to develop and implement clinical governance/audit- identify gaps in the evidence base, alerting appropriate individuals and organisations to these and how they might be addressed in a safe and pragmatic way
- Knowledge of standards of record keeping
- Knowledge of relevant legislation Children's Act, Excellence for All Children, SEN Code of Practice, National Autism Plan etc.
