Position Overview

An exceptional opportunity is available for a Cytosponge Nursing Specialist, working Monday to Friday on a fixed-term contract.

The Cytosponge Service at University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust is expanding, and we seek an individual with outstanding organizational and clinical abilities, along with a genuine passion for cytosponge procedures and service development.

We invite applications from registered nurses at Band 5 and above, possessing a minimum of two years of post-registration experience within the NHS, and at least one year of experience in Gastroenterology or Endoscopy. Ideal candidates will be dynamic, innovative, and committed, with a robust background in the specialty and exemplary leadership capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

The Cytosponge procedure is administered to patients on the symptomatic pathway for routine reflux and those already on a planned waiting list for Barrett's oesophagus surveillance.

This role encompasses various responsibilities, including:

  • Patient vetting and selection
  • Conducting triage clinics
  • Managing the cytosponge capsule clinic
  • Follow-up care and management

In addition to supporting the nursing team in delivering a safe, efficient, and patient-centered service, you will strive to achieve optimal outcomes for both patients and staff. You will also play a vital role in quality and governance initiatives, ensuring adherence to the audit program.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • NMC Registration
  • Two years of post-registration experience
  • One year of experience in Gastroenterology or Endoscopy

Desirable:

  • Degree in Nursing
  • Nurse prescribing qualification
  • Health assessment training

Experience

Essential:

  • Advanced experience in Gastroenterology or Endoscopy
  • Knowledge of JAG standards
  • Evidence of teaching and educational involvement
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
