Position Overview

Key Responsibilities

The Clinical Nurse Specialist will undertake a variety of clinical duties, including but not limited to:

  • Cervical Screening
  • Immunization administration
  • Wound care management
  • Contraceptive consultations
  • Travel vaccination services

Additionally, the successful candidate will assist the nursing team in managing chronic conditions, which encompasses:

  • Asthma assessments
  • Diabetes management

Balham Park Surgery is a prominent General Practice located in a vibrant community. Our patient base consists of approximately 21,000 individuals.

Our diverse and skilled team includes GP Partners, management professionals, salaried GPs, GP registrars, pharmacists, physiotherapists, social prescribers, nurses, healthcare assistants, phlebotomists, care navigators, and care coordinators.

We foster a collaborative work environment, featuring daily team meetings for coffee and lunch, along with regular clinical discussions. We prioritize the well-being of our staff, offering access to an employee assistance program for mental health support and providing fresh fruit for all team members.

Job Duties

The Clinical Nurse Specialist will be responsible for:

  • Collaborating within a multidisciplinary team to assess and treat patients, utilizing expert knowledge in specific health conditions.
  • Participating in the management of patients with chronic illnesses and conducting clinical reviews to optimize medication use.
  • Providing leadership in medication management and ensuring adherence to local guidelines.
  • Engaging in continuous professional development and participating in clinical supervision.
  • Maintaining accurate clinical records and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation.
  • Contributing to public health initiatives and campaigns.

In addition to the primary responsibilities, the Clinical Nurse Specialist may be asked to:

  • Support quality improvement initiatives and participate in training programs.
  • Collaborate with pharmacy professionals to enhance patient care.
  • Engage in community health projects and outreach programs.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Registered Nurse qualification
  • Current registration with the relevant nursing body

Desirable:

  • Experience in a general practice setting
  • Knowledge of chronic disease management
