About the Role

The Royal College of Music Museum oversees a prestigious collection of approximately 14,000 artifacts, ranging from the 15th to the 20th century, that illustrate the evolution and performance of music through various mediums such as musical instruments, artworks, and early printed materials. Recently accredited and revitalized in modern facilities, the museum is a proud recipient of the Research England 'Higher Education Museums, Galleries and Collections Fund'.

Department Overview

The Wolfson Centre in Music and Material Culture is dedicated to enhancing access and research concerning the collections, focusing on non-textual sources pertinent to music history and practice. This includes the development of both internally and externally funded initiatives that explore historical and contemporary practices, as well as innovative methodologies for documenting, interpreting, and sharing material musical heritage.

Key Responsibilities

The Museum Research Coordinator will oversee access to the collections and collaborate closely with the Curator to:

  • Develop and manage research projects.
  • Implement dissemination initiatives and grant proposals.
  • Produce and share research outputs.

Candidate Profile

We seek individuals who possess:

  • A proven record of impactful research in music and material culture, including organology and iconography.
  • A dedication to research and knowledge dissemination, evidenced by publications, conference participation, and educational activities.
  • A passion for sharing research with both specialized and general audiences through various channels, including in-person events and digital platforms.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, enabling the successful management of multiple tasks while delivering high-quality results.
