About the Role
Lakeside Healthcare Group is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Dispensary Assistant to join our team. As a Dispensary Assistant, you will play a vital role in ensuring the provision of professional and efficient service to our patients.
Key Responsibilities
- Issue repeat medication requests for the Dispensary and local Pharmacies on behalf of patients.
- Action online repeat prescription requests and utilize dispensary task boxes appropriately.
- Ensure the Dispensary Assistants team has prescription telephone lines covered during peak hours.
- Answer prescription queries and issue prescriptions.
- Raise appliance prescriptions according to community nursing team requests.
- Issue prescriptions for care homes, ensuring they are sent to the relevant GP for signing and the correct Pharmacy for delivery.
- Organize and sort appliances and paperwork for collection/delivery.
- Transfer medication to patients at the window/counter as per Standard Operating Procedures.
- Collect and record prescription charges.
- Ensure all monies received or handled on behalf of the practice are stored and recorded appropriately.
- Deal with prescription queries from patients and Pharmacies at the window/counter.
- Put away dispensed parcels on shelves and file prescriptions for collection.
- Put dispensed parcels for delivery away in cupboards and ensure labels are correct.
- Promptly forward invoices and dispensary-related correspondence to the finance manager or dispensary manager.
- Maintain a high level of hygiene within the dispensary by regularly cleaning shelves and work surfaces.
- Accept pharmaceutical deliveries and complete relevant paperwork.
- Ensure refrigerated items are stored at the appropriate temperature and maintain a temperature control record/logbook.
- Undertake any necessary work to maintain a high standard and efficient dispensing service.
- Participate in necessary training, including Blue stream Academy.
- Ensure all processes are followed as per Standard Operating Procedures.
Prescriptions and Prescription Monies
- Check prescriptions for signature/endorsements and sort into paid/unpaid by doctor.
- Cash up prescription monies, balance, and record.
- Submit prescription monies to the finance department for banking, ensuring sufficient change is available.
Destruction of Drugs
- Deal with returned medication from patients for the DOOP on a daily basis.
- Deal with uncollected medication from shelves, return to stock, and cancel prescriptions on a weekly basis.
Person Specification
Qualifications
- GCSE English and Maths (Grade A-C or equivalent).
Desirable
- GCSE IT (Grade A-C) or ECDL.
- Good level of knowledge and experience of IT.
Experience
- Articulate excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
- Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages.
- Confident telephone manner.
Desirable
- Awareness of general practices.
- Clinical/medical terminology.
