The ideal candidate will possess the capability to assess contract documents and employer requirements against internal tenders, while managing all financial aspects throughout the project lifecycle.
This role requires close collaboration with various departments within the organization, reporting directly to the Commercial Manager. A strong understanding of risk mitigation and management is essential to safeguard profitability, support business growth, and uphold the company’s reputation in a competitive market.
Key Responsibilities:
- Participate in client pre-construction and kickoff meetings.
- Facilitate effective internal handovers from Estimating to Contracts.
- Identify project risks and opportunities, preparing schedules before site commencement and managing them in conjunction with the contracts department.
- Review and appraise contracts and collateral warranties.
- Evaluate sub-contract packages.
- Issue and manage sub-contract orders.
- Approve sub-contract payments.
- Maintain a valuation and invoice tracker for the Waterproofing Department, reviewing it monthly with the Commercial Manager and Finance Department.
- Issue valuations and invoices as required.
- Assess contract obligations, identifying changes or variations promptly and discussing them internally before notifying clients.
- Coordinate vesting certificates where necessary.
- Collaborate with the Finance Department to update on commercial matters, including payment terms and cash flow forecasts.
- Assist in developing comprehensive monthly reports for larger projects.
- Support the implementation of internal KPIs within the waterproofing division.
- Contribute to the introduction of new commercial strategies within the Waterproofing division.
- Provide support to internal departments from project handover to completion.
- Assist other divisions with any commercial-related tasks as needed.
The Ideal Candidate:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a Quantity Surveyor or Estimating role within the construction or building envelope sector.
- Familiarity with building contracts, particularly JCT and NEC3, is preferred.
- Knowledge of roofing and cladding systems.
- Strong analytical skills to assess risks and opportunities effectively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills within the Commercial Team and across the organization.
- Experience in the rail sector is advantageous.
- Background in the construction industry with an understanding of subcontractor operations.
- Proficient in IT, particularly with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- High level of literacy and numeracy skills.
Compensation:
Salary: £30,000 - £50,000
Benefits include:
- Car allowance or company vehicle

- Annual leave: 20 days plus bank holidays (3 days reserved for Christmas shutdown)

- Standard working hours: 40 hours per week
