Job Title: Inflammatory Bowel Disease Nurse Specialist

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Biologics Clinical Nurse Specialist to join the Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) team in Bradford. The Service provides expert assessment, advice, training, and intervention supporting patients requiring treatment with biologic therapies.

The post-holder will work closely with the wider multi-disciplinary team to provide a responsive and supportive service to those requiring treatment. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, lead and participate in biologics nurse-led clinics, drug monitoring/screening, patient reviews, and prescription management. Clinics may be face-to-face or telephone.

A commitment to individualized evidence-based patient care and the ability to act sensitively and empathetically is essential. Be confident in delivering education sessions to both patients, their families, and other healthcare professionals. Clinical supervision and training to develop knowledge and skills will be provided.

Main Duties of the Job

The primary responsibility of this post holder will be to manage Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) patients on biologic treatments working within national and local guidelines.

Working autonomously and alongside clinical colleagues to provide expert care, treatment, and support for this patient group.

Play a key role within the multidisciplinary team to ensure a seamless, coordinated, and timely approach to care.

The post holder will be responsible for the coordination of investigations, treatment, monitoring, and review of patients on biologic treatments.

The post holder will liaise appropriately with all key members of the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) and service users related to the use of biologics therapy in IBD.

The post-holder will provide clinical, social, and psychological support to their patients/service users using excellent communication skills, education, and health promotion to enable them to reach their optimum level of independence and health.

Maintaining the local biologics databases.

Person Specification
  • Experience of participating in clinical audit
  • Relevant clinical experience in IBD or Biologics
  • Experience in policy development
  • Experience of developing innovative practice
  • Experience of working in an MDT and across organizational and professional boundaries
Skills
  • Computer literate - ability to use Word/Excel/PowerPoint, etc.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the NHS national targets and priorities
  • Knowledge and understanding of the needs of the defined caseload (patients/service-users/staff)
  • Knowledge of change management processes
Qualifications
  • Appropriate NMC Registration (RN)
  • Degree or equivalent qualification (e.g. diploma level specialist training) or experience
  • Mentorship - Supporting Learning in Practice (SLIP/ENB998) or equivalent qualification
  • Evidence of current CPD
  • Relevant specialist qualification or training to diploma level or equivalent experience
