Key Responsibilities

As an Interim Customs Agent, you will leverage your extensive knowledge of import and export compliance. Your main duties will include:
  • Managing customs brokerage and entries utilizing Destin8 and CNS systems.
  • Gathering all necessary import and export shipping documentation (including Airway bills, Commercial Invoices, Customs Documents, Proof of Delivery, HS Codes, and EORI numbers) from Freight Forwarders and Customer Service teams to meet UK Customs standards.
  • Ensuring accurate tracking and documentation of data to comply with internal and HMRC regulations.
  • Following up with customers and Freight Forwarders to secure missing documentation promptly, often under tight deadlines.
  • Communicating daily with customers and carriers to verify product deliveries and ensure accurate information is provided.
  • Staying informed about current legislation and export documentation requirements to maintain compliance.
  • Collecting and providing shipping documentation for Letters of Credit, collaborating with internal finance, customer service, and compliance teams to meet the necessary requirements.
  • Engaging with the Chamber of Commerce to apply for attested documents as required for shipping.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate for the Interim Customs Agent position will possess a strong background in shipping compliance and be located within a reasonable commuting distance to the Harwich area. Required qualifications include:
  • Experience in import and/or export compliance, preferably within the freight-forwarding or in-house sectors.
  • A strong desire to advance a career in customs and compliance within the import and export industry.
  • Familiarity with CDS, import and export declarations, or CHIEF software.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary range: £28,000 - £32,000
