GBS Global Applied Knowledge is seeking a dedicated and experienced Student Success Leader to join our dynamic team in Birmingham. This role plays a vital part in supporting and retaining students, ensuring they thrive throughout their academic journey.

Reporting directly to the Head of Student Retention, you will contribute significantly to the success of the Student Retention Team. Your responsibilities will encompass strategic leadership, day-to-day management, and collaboration with various stakeholders to create a supportive and engaging learning environment for our students.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide comprehensive support to the Head of Student Retention in both strategic planning and operational management of the Student Retention Team.
  • Represent the Student Retention Team effectively to internal and external stakeholders, acting as a liaison and deputizing for the Head of Student Retention when required.
  • Lead and mentor Senior Retention Managers, setting clear performance indicators, monitoring progress, and providing constructive feedback.
  • Collaborate closely with academic faculties and operational departments to ensure seamless student retention strategies across all areas of the institution.
  • Proactively engage with relevant internal and external stakeholders to foster student engagement and address any challenges they may face.
  • Work in partnership with faculties and registry staff to ensure timely support for students with poor attendance, facilitating their reintegration into studies or managing withdrawals according to GBS's policies and partner requirements.
  • Collaborate with faculties to provide guidance and support to at-risk students, assisting them in submitting or resubmitting assessments successfully.
  • Analyze student retention data, generating insightful reports and presentations for senior management to inform strategic decision-making.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records, ensuring compliance with all relevant policies and procedures.
  • Provide ongoing mentorship and training opportunities for Student Retention Team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development.
  • Ensure that staff adhere to professional guidelines and best practices when interacting with students experiencing attendance issues, promoting ethical and supportive interventions.
  • Conduct annual performance reviews for staff within the Student Retention Team, providing constructive feedback and guidance for professional growth.
  • Regularly review and evaluate student retention services, highlighting their impact on student progression and course completion rates.
Qualifications:
  • Extensive experience in student retention and support within a higher education setting.
  • A Master's degree or equivalent qualification is preferred, with a strong understanding of safeguarding legislation and best practices. Experience working with mature students is highly desirable.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to adapt your message for diverse audiences in an inclusive and accessible manner.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively and meet deadlines consistently.
  • A collaborative and team-oriented approach, with a commitment to working effectively with colleagues across different departments.
