Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated individual to join our Blood Sciences Department as a Laboratory Sample Processing Coordinator. This role is essential in ensuring the efficient reception and management of pathological samples.

The successful candidate will be part of a committed team, receiving support for Continuous Professional Development through on-site training and opportunities to attend relevant external events, while gaining invaluable experience in a dynamic laboratory environment.

The role requires a commitment to work a specified number of hours per week on a rotating schedule, following the completion of training and competency assessments.

Key Responsibilities

The selected candidate will be responsible for:

  • Receiving and dispatching samples to the appropriate laboratories.
  • Sorting and labeling specimens accurately for blood sciences.
  • Performing precise data entry on the laboratory information system, requiring sustained attention to detail.
  • Managing the processing and distribution of consumable orders for healthcare providers.
  • Filing and disseminating patient reports efficiently.
  • Organizing personal workload effectively.
  • Handling inquiries from service users and communicating test results, which may involve complex or sensitive information.
  • Assisting in the training and mentoring of new or less experienced staff as needed.
  • Collaborating with laboratory and medical personnel to ensure timely and appropriate handling of specimens.
  • Coordinating with healthcare providers, hospital clinics, and other departments within the pathology division.

  • Managing the reception, identification, and processing of pathological samples.
  • Sorting and labeling of specimens accurately.
  • Conducting precise data entry on the laboratory information system, requiring focused attention.
  • Maintaining inventory and supplies.
  • Ensuring timely completion and distribution of consumable orders to healthcare providers.

Required Qualifications

Experience

Essential

  • Proven keyboard proficiency.
  • Familiarity with word processing, database, and spreadsheet software.
  • Ability to handle confidential patient information with professionalism.
  • Capacity to work collaboratively within a diverse team.

Desirable

  • Previous experience in a laboratory setting.

Education

Essential

  • Good GCSE qualifications in English and Mathematics.
  • Prior administrative and clerical experience in a healthcare or customer service context.

Desirable

  • Proficiency in keyboard and IT skills, preferably ECDL certified.
