Job Overview

NHS England - South East Region Medical Directorate is seeking to appoint a Manager of Professional Standards. The successful candidate will be an integral part of a proactive team dedicated to providing comprehensive support to team members, managers, and staff within the Performance, Appraisal, and Revalidation Sector.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate the processing and execution of GP revalidation recommendations and annual appraisals for physicians associated with NHS England - South East.
  • Assist the team in upholding NHS England's Responsible Officer (RO) connections and managing the Revalidation Management System for approximately 9000 General Practitioners.
  • Oversee individual cases stemming from appraisals and practitioners who are not engaged.
  • Conduct challenging discussions with General Practitioners, offering guidance and support regarding their appraisal and revalidation processes.
  • Direct practitioners to NHS England's Clinical Advisors for retention, defined scope, and well-being discussions.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders, including GP appraisers, Senior Appraisers, the GMC, and other colleagues to address inquiries and promote best practices.
  • Supervise the processing of appraiser pension payments and the creation of SOLO forms and Locum A forms.
  • Partner with the team to maintain the Professional Standards workspace on the FutureNHS Hub.

Please note that management of team members may also be part of this role.

Main Duties:

  • Support the team in ensuring that the portfolio of tasks and projects are strategically planned, managed, and executed efficiently.
  • Ensure the management of specific tasks, including reporting and analyzing data across various functions and projects.
  • Be an essential member of the team while fostering effective communication and stakeholder management, both internally and externally.
  • Possess a solid understanding of information governance principles and confidentiality requirements.

The postholder will be expected to work effectively as part of the Responsible Officers' team and independently.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in processing General Practitioner revalidation recommendations.
  • Experience in managing physicians who have not engaged or participated in their annual appraisal/revalidation.
  • Familiarity with managing pension payments and producing SOLO forms, Locum A forms, and liaising with finance colleagues.
  • Knowledge of GMC Regulations, Responsible Officers Regulations, NHS England Appraisal Policies, and the AoMRC Medical Appraisal 2022.
  • Experience in handling difficult conversations and complex inquiries.
  • Proficiency in using internal management systems such as Revalidation Management System, GMC Connect, PCSE Portal, and Athena.
