Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Rheumatology Consultant to join our team at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient-centered care, leading on patient safety issues, and achieving a change in practice.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Undertake 5 rheumatology clinics per week, including General Rheumatology, Early Arthritis, and GCA/vasculitis clinics.
  • See rheumatology ward referrals, provide advice and guidance to primary care, and support queries arising from the broader rheumatology team.
  • Maintain high-quality patient-centered care, shared responsibility for the day-to-day management of the service, and participation in strategic planning.
  • Teach and train within the multidisciplinary service, actively involve in multidisciplinary team meetings, and directorate clinical governance activity.
  • Active participation in continuing medical education, with a focus on the management of Rheumatological disorders, including inflammatory arthritis, soft tissue disorders, and connective tissue diseases.

Person Specification
  • Entry on GMC Specialist Register or, be within 6 months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview or, provide GMC confirmed eligibility for entry on the Specialist Register.
  • College Membership (MRCP) or qualification of an equivalent level.
Desirable Criteria
  • Postgraduate degree (or equivalent).
Previous Experience
  • Broad range of experience in Rheumatology.
  • Experience of supervising undergraduates, doctors in training, and other colleagues.
  • Ability to offer and be accountable for full and independent expert diagnostic opinion.
  • Can evidence leading on patient safety issues and achieving a change in practice.
Skills
  • Able to evidence engagement with clinical governance and the identification of errors and the learning from errors.
  • Evidence engagement with appraisal and revalidation.
