Position Overview

An exceptional opportunity has arisen for a senior leadership role within the Allied Health Professional leadership team at Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust. The Senior Speech and Language Therapy Leader is a pivotal role within the organization, responsible for providing strong professional guidance and fostering engagement, while ensuring high standards of care and quality outcomes for the individuals we serve.

The successful candidate will exhibit positive and visible leadership through a collaborative, innovative, and solution-oriented approach. They will champion a culture of continuous improvement, creativity, and optimal patient experiences. Our Allied Health Professional leaders are highly regarded across the system and are supported by a team of dynamic and experienced colleagues.

Main Responsibilities

As a member of the senior leadership team, this role necessitates collaborative efforts with various operational, professional, and corporate colleagues to ensure the profession continues to deliver exceptional care and is well-prepared to meet emerging opportunities. The post holder will embody the organization's values and serve as a role model for credible and compassionate clinical leadership.

The Senior Speech and Language Therapy Leader will spearhead the development of evidence-based best practices, including innovative and evolving roles within the Trust and the broader system. They will assist the Head of Profession for Speech and Language Therapy in overseeing the delivery of safe, effective, and high-quality speech and language therapy services, while collaborating with operational colleagues to identify service priorities.

Engaging meaningfully with our speech and language therapy workforce is essential to promote job satisfaction and enhance patient experiences and outcomes. The post holder will ensure that our workforce is nurtured and empowered to contribute to service improvement and innovation across the system.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential Qualifications

  • Registered Speech and Language Therapist with the HCPC
  • Relevant Master's degree or equivalent experience
  • Management development or leadership qualification
  • Leadership and management training
  • Silver Quality Improvement training

Essential Experience

  • Comprehensive knowledge of speech and language therapy across various practice areas, including mental health, community health, pediatric, and learning disabilities.
  • Experience in research, quality improvement, audit, or evaluation processes.
  • Proven track record in leading successful change management and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Experience in delivering projects to a high standard and achieving agreed outcomes.
  • Leadership experience in a team or service setting.
  • Excellent presentation skills and experience in staff training.
  • Experience in co-developing evidence-based practices, care pathways, and care packages.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience as a senior speech and language therapist in diverse settings, representing a wide range of care environments and client groups.
  • Experience in dysphagia assessment and management.
  • Evidence of feedback from service users, carers, and peers regarding performance.
