About the Role

Reporting to and taking day-to-day direction from the Group Programme and Health & Safety Manager, you will coordinate the H&S workload and serve as an escalation point for the team. Leading by example, you'll foster a positive and motivating team environment while overseeing H&S processes, procedures, training, and auditing across The West Group of Companies. You'll be attuned to company and departmental objectives, targets, and measurements.

Job Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Programme and H&S Manager to lead and maintain all H&S policies and procedures by regularly reviewing government legislation and guidance.
  • Provide H&S management advice and guidance to colleagues.
  • Ensure that Method Statements, Risk Assessments, Safe Systems of Work, and COSHH Assessments for all companies, equipment, and chemicals are up-to-date and regularly reviewed.
  • Participate in monthly H&S Committee meetings for each company within the group.
  • Support the Programme and H&S Manager in completing personal risk assessments for staff requiring additional support, as identified during recruitment or following a period of ill health.
  • Deliver H&S inductions for all new staff joining Group companies and ensure inductions at other sites are completed promptly.
  • Contribute to the design, development, and delivery of in-house H&S training for new recruits and regular refresher training and toolbox talks for all Group staff.
  • Ensure that all staff H&S training is accurately recorded and documented.
  • Work with the Facilities Manager to ensure all equipment is serviced and regulatory checks such as LOLER and LEV are completed.
  • Conduct regular workplace inspections and audits across the Group to ensure compliance, liaising with various departments and providing recommendations for improvement.
  • Maintain awareness of relevant regulatory and ISO standards.

Essential Skills

  • IOSH Managing Safely (essential)
  • NEBOSH General Certificate (desirable)
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001, 14001 (desirable)
  • Understanding of H&S regulations
  • Minimum of 2 years H&S experience in a similar role
  • Experience in carrying out safety management audits
  • Experience in conducting H&S training
  • Ability to travel across Hampshire & Devon
  • Driving license essential
