About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced nurse to join our team as a Senior Sister on Bramshaw Ward at University Hospital Southampton NHS Trust. As a Senior Sister, you will be responsible for providing professional nursing leadership and working closely with the Matron to enhance nursing practice and improve patient outcomes.

Main Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain a ward philosophy that prioritizes patient-centered care.
  • Provide expert nursing leadership and collaborate with the Matron to drive nursing excellence.
  • Ensure 24-hour coverage for services and maintain a skilled staff mix.
  • Model excellence in practice and contribute effectively to inter-professional team working.
  • Facilitate evidence-based care and serve as a clinical expert at ward level.
  • Develop a quality learning environment and link education and training with high standards of patient care.

Person Specification
  • Essential:
    • 1st Level Registered nurse on relevant part of the NMC Register.
    • Recognised mentorship qualification and experience as a Sign Off mentor.
    • Degree or working towards.
    • Completion of appropriate specialty Course.
    • Higher Education Institute approved course in supporting learners in practice.
    • Extensive experience in specialty to include considerable experience at Band 6 level.
    • Evidence of clinical leadership ability.
    • Proven management experience.
    • Evidence of continuing professional development.
    • Evidence of utilising evidence in practice.
    • Logical and consistent career pattern.
    • Expert clinical skills.
    • Ability to prioritise and deliver agreed objectives.
    • Ability to work flexible hours and fulfill service requirements.
  • Desirable:
    • Management Course (or equivalent).
    • Experience as an NMC sign off mentor or clinical practice assessor.
    • Evidence of staff development and succession planning.
    • Broad range of post registration experience.
    • Experience of report writing.
