Job Summary

The Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a highly skilled Manual Handling Advisor to join our Patient Safety and Risk Department. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Senior Manual Handling Advisor and providing expert guidance on manual handling practices across the Trust.

Main Responsibilities
  • Deliver robust, fit-for-purpose manual handling training to staff across the Trust, ensuring compliance with industry best practices and legislative requirements.
  • Develop and implement manual handling standards based on legislative documentation, working closely with the Health and Safety team and other stakeholders.
  • Provide expert advice and support to managers and staff on manual handling issues, including patient handling and the handling of inanimate loads and objects.
  • Conduct thorough incident investigations, identifying root causes and recommending remedial actions to prevent recurrence and improve safety performance.
  • Produce policies, procedures, and communications to assist Trust management and staff in complying with Health and Safety legislation and best practice.

Person Specification
  • Demonstrable ability to meet the Trust Values.
  • A relevant professional qualification, such as Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, nursing, or other discipline with suitable relevant experience.
  • Postgraduate qualification in manual handling.
  • NVQ/QCA level 4 teaching qualification (CTTLS).
  • Substantial experience of delivering manual/patient handling training to a range of audiences, preferably in an acute NHS environment.
  • Commitment to personal learning and development.
  • Thorough working knowledge of current manual handling risk management and associated legislation in relation to NHS environments.
