About the Role

We are seeking an Electronics Engineer to join our team at the Chilbolton Observatory, operated by RAL Space. As an integral part of our team, you will be responsible for developing and managing operations of on-site radar equipment to support user research programmes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct operations for atmospheric science radars and space situational awareness tracking systems
  • Support technical development of radars
  • Provide technical support for other projects operating at the Observatory
Requirements
  • Currently enrolled on an electronics engineering undergraduate degree course and returning to university/studies to complete your undergraduate degree following the placement
  • Required or have requested to take an industrial placement year
  • Have the right to live and work in the UK for the duration of the placement
  • Able to commence employment in summer 2025
  • Interest in radio frequency engineering and/or communications engineering
  • Have own transport to reach Chilbolton Observatory
  • Good general knowledge of basic electronics, including both analogue and digital design
  • Knowledge of the C programming language
  • Good communication skills
  • Practical electronic assembly skills
  • Experience with electronic test equipment
Desirable Skills
  • RF design - radio links
  • Programmable digital logic design - FPGA
  • Experience with microcontrollers - PIC AVR etc
