Position Overview

We are currently looking for a Senior Finance Officer to be a vital part of our newly formed Corporate Services Directorate, which encompasses three key Departments: Finance, Digital Data and Technology (DDaT), and People. This position will play a crucial role in enhancing the strategic, proactive, efficient, and effective operations of the Corporate Services Departments, enabling the GLAA to thrive and achieve its strategic objectives.

About the Gangmasters and Labour Abuse Authority (GLAA)

The GLAA is dedicated to providing outstanding service to the public, businesses, and workers in the fight against worker exploitation. The GLAA serves as one of the principal investigative law enforcement agencies addressing labor exploitation in the UK. Our mission is to ensure that workers in the UK are treated fairly and are safeguarded against abuse and exploitation. We focus on three core functions:

Regulation - We oversee businesses that supply workers to sectors such as horticulture, agriculture, shellfish gathering, and food processing and packaging. Our regulatory efforts include managing a licensing scheme, conducting inspections to ensure compliance, and taking enforcement actions in cases of violations.Prevention - We collaborate with a wide array of stakeholders at local, national, and international levels to help prevent the exploitation of workers.Enforcement - We investigate claims of worker abuse under the Modern Slavery Act 2015. GLAA Officers carry out civil and criminal investigations and implement enforcement actions, including prosecutions and court orders to disrupt criminal activities. We also provide support to victims of abuse, ensuring they have access to specialized assistance from our partners.

Importance of this Role

As the Senior Finance Officer, you will be instrumental in the efficient and effective operation of the GLAA finance team. This role is highly visible, and the successful candidate will be responsible for key activities that support the broader finance team. You will report directly to the Finance Manager, providing essential assistance with payroll maintenance and processing.

Key Responsibilities

Assist in monitoring and developing robust systems of financial accountability and control in accordance with the Organisation’s Finance Manual.Help maintain effective financial administration systems to ensure an efficient finance function for both internal and external clients.Provide support in relation to the preparation of accounts and audits.Prepare spreadsheets, reports, and correspondence as necessary.Process payroll and pension information.Oversee bank reconciliations and conduct spreadsheet analyses.Support the annual pay review process.Assist the Finance Manager with end-of-month and year-end procedures.

Part-time working hours are available for this role, with a minimum commitment of 30 hours spread over 4 days per week.
