Position Overview: This role involves supporting the implementation of a significant ecological initiative aimed at enhancing biodiversity and community involvement.

Location: Based in Barnstaple

This is a fixed-term position for a duration of 12 months.

An exciting opportunity exists to contribute to the North Devon Coast National Landscape project, focusing on improving our understanding of local wildlife and habitats through community participation, ecological assessments, and conservation efforts.

The project is funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and seeks a motivated, organized individual to join a collaborative team. This role offers the chance to expand your ecological expertise while achieving meaningful outcomes for local wildlife.

Project Goals: The primary aim is to develop a community-driven Nature Recovery Plan for the North Devon Coast National Landscape, alongside actionable initiatives for wildlife preservation. You will collaborate with various stakeholders, including community members, landowners, educational institutions, volunteers, and relevant organizations throughout North Devon and Torridge.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in conducting a variety of ecological surveys and practical conservation activities.
  • Engage in wildlife recording and green prescribing sessions for diverse audiences.
  • Work closely with the Project Coordinator to ensure successful project delivery.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will possess a degree in a relevant environmental field or have equivalent experience in volunteer work. Familiarity with local ecosystems, species identification, and wildlife recording is essential. A genuine enthusiasm for public engagement and a commitment to fostering connections between people and nature is crucial.

Employment Details: The successful applicant will be employed by North Devon Voluntary Services and will work from the National Landscape team's office.

Benefits: This position offers 26 days of annual leave, in addition to public holidays, and includes a pension scheme.
