Devon, United Kingdom Devon County Council Full time

Proposed start date: Early Oct 2024

Location: Barnstaple based

This post is fixed term for 12 months.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work in the North Devon Coast National Landscape (‘Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty’) to assist with the delivery of the Finding Nature’s Footprints project to enhance our knowledge of the species and habitats of the North Devon Coast National Landscape, through community engagement, ecological surveys and conservation activities.

The ‘Finding Nature’s Footprints’ project is supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, and requires an enthusiastic, confident and organised person. You will be part of a small, collaborative team and have the opportunity to develop your ecological skills and knowledge, whilst delivering project results and outcomes and make a difference for wildlife.

The overall project objective is to create a community-led Nature Recovery Plan for the North Devon Coast National Landscape alongside community actions for wildlife. You will work with the project partners, communities, landowners, schools, students, volunteers and agencies across North Devon and Torridge. Working with the Project Co-ordinator, tasks include assisting with the delivery of a range of ecological surveys, practical conservation tasks, wildlife recording activities and green prescribing sessions for a wide range of people.

The successful candidate will be educated to degree level in a relevant environmental discipline or have equivalent work or volunteer experience and have some knowledge of local habitats, species, wildlife recording and nature recovery. A passion for working with the public, connecting people with nature and sharing wildlife knowledge with all ages is essential.

The appointee will be employed by project partner North Devon Voluntary Services and work from the National Landscape team’s office in Barnstaple.
