About the Role

This is a part-time (12 hours a week) Clinical Lead position, which includes travel between NHS Trusts and services. The successful candidate will be working in an existing clinical role within a forensic mental health service in Kent, Surrey, or Sussex.

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical leadership for the Kent Surrey and Sussex (KSS) women's secure and forensic mental health services with particular responsibility for care pathways into, through, and out of secure and forensic services for women originating from the following NHS trust catchment areas: Kent and Medway NHS and Social Care Partnership Trust (KMPT); Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (SABP); Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (SPFT).
  • Travel between NHS Trusts and services.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Management qualification/professional qualification (RMN, OT, Psychologist, or Social Worker) or equivalent level of experience and proven ability to perform at this level.
  • Professional registration in health/social care profession (GMC, NMC, HCPC, or SWE)

Knowledge/Experience

  • Significant experience of and demonstrable achievement in a consultant or professional lead role within forensic mental health.
  • Experience of providing teaching, training at post-registration or qualification level to colleagues within the Trust, other agencies, and educational settings.
  • Good understanding of change management, budget management, efficiency savings, and financial recovery plans.
  • Experience of using new ways of working to modernize services without additional resources.
  • Experience of developing and maintaining effective partnerships with stakeholders in the redesign of services.
  • Measurable track record in involving and motivating staff to improve performance.
  • Excellent ability to assimilate large amounts of information to support highly complex, often unique clinical decisions.
  • Excellent analytical skills to be able to communicate service decisions both internally and externally to the organization.
  • Good working knowledge of Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act legislation.

Skills

  • Thorough knowledge of the drivers behind Mental Health Policy and understanding of regulatory framework for Foundation Trusts.
  • VDU user and competent user of IT packages including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and openly with staff at all levels, from the Executive Team to frontline staff.
  • Ability to present highly complex and emotive information.
  • Ability to impart unwelcome news to staff and/or patients that is of a distressing or emotional nature.
  • An open and facilitative style of leadership which can be adapted when necessary to ensure delivery of objectives.
  • Able to hold senior professionals and peers to account.
  • An excellent understanding of effective systems for integrated governance and the management of clinical and non-clinical risks.
  • Strong performance management skills combining clarity around expectations, direction, and holding others to account.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret performance and financial information, excellent numerical and presentational skills.
