About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Financial Controller to join our team at Laing O'Rourke's Centre of Excellence for Modern Construction (CEMC) in the UK. As a key member of our finance team, you will be responsible for providing strong financial controls and reporting, ensuring the accurate management of our financial performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare and submit financial reports, including Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, and Cashflow statements, to the Group.
  • Financial Analysis: Analyze business performance and provide explanations for variances in budget and forecast.
  • Balance Sheet Management: Take responsibility for balance sheet accounts, FAR, and stock listings, ensuring reconciliations are undertaken on a monthly basis.
  • Process Improvement: Proactively identify and improve finance and business processes to ensure fast and accurate management information is available.
  • Accounting Standards: Stay up-to-date with Accounting Standards and implement new accounting treatments where necessary.
  • Risk Management: Understand business risks and strategies, and ensure that financial reporting accurately reflects these risks.
  • Audit Support: Prepare and review supporting schedules for year-end audit.
  • Travel and Team Management: Travel occasionally to other offices and manage a team of two Accounts Clerks.
Requirements
  • Qualifications: Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent).
  • Financial Skills: Strong financial and analytical skills, with excellent IT skills, particularly in Excel and PowerPoint, and experience using SAP, COINs, Tagetik, and Power BI.
  • Industry Experience: Experience working within a large manufacturing company, preferably in the construction and engineering sector.
  • Personal Qualities: Candidates must have a record of academic success and a mix of the following personal and professional characteristics: certainty, reliability, quality, and a strong work ethic.
