Position Overview: Lead Engineering Manager

Your Role as Lead Engineering Manager:

We are looking for a proactive and skilled Lead Engineering Manager to take charge of our engineering and safety assurance teams within a significant Defence infrastructure initiative. This is an opportunity to influence the engineering and safety assurance processes, ensuring alignment with the Design Authority (DA) and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership: Provide vision and motivate engineering and safety assurance teams.
  • Quality Control: Guarantee that all outputs comply with DA and regulatory expectations.
  • System Integration: Supervise the execution of system requirements and safety assurance tasks for floating dock and shoreside facilities.
  • Strategic Planning: Develop and obtain approval for engineering and safety assurance strategies, methodologies, and tools.
  • Baseline Development: Partner with the DA to establish the nuclear baseline (AC36) and confirm that roles are suitably qualified and experienced personnel (SQEP).
  • Collaborative Engagement: Ensure effective representation in commercial delivery frameworks with Tranche and Commercial leads.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Act as the main point of contact with the DA, Site Operations, and Regulatory bodies.
  • Team Development: Promote a unified and integrated approach within diverse teams.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with the Programme Safety Engineering Management Plan (SEMP).

Candidate Profile:

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Regulatory Expertise: Experience in engaging with regulators in high-stakes environments, preferably nuclear.
  • Proven Leadership: Demonstrated success in leading multi-disciplinary teams in developing engineering designs, justifications, and safety assurances for major infrastructure or complex engineering projects.
  • Diverse Background: Extensive senior engineering leadership experience across various major infrastructure initiatives or complex multi-disciplinary engineering projects, ideally in regulated sectors.
  • Professional Accreditation: Chartered Engineer status with full membership in a recognized engineering institution.
  • Management Experience: Proven experience in managing engineering personnel at the chief engineer level.
  • Preferred Background: Experience in marine structures or naval architecture is advantageous.
