Job Overview

As a Lead Engineering Manager at J.P. Morgan Chase, you will play a pivotal role within the Engineering Platforms and Integrated Experience division. Your leadership will be instrumental in providing technical guidance and mentorship to various engineering teams, while also anticipating the needs and potential interdependencies of other organizational functions. Your expertise will significantly influence budgetary and technical decisions aimed at enhancing operational efficiencies and functionalities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Offer strategic direction, oversight, and mentorship for a team of software engineers ranging from entry-level to mid-level, focusing on tasks of basic to moderate complexity.
  • Take accountability for decisions impacting team resources, budget, tactical operations, and the execution of processes and procedures.
  • Facilitate successful collaboration among teams and stakeholders.
  • Identify and address issues to ensure the successful execution of projects, escalating concerns as necessary.
  • Provide insights to leadership regarding budgetary considerations, strategic approaches, and technical factors to enhance operational efficiency and team functionality.
  • Foster a culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect among team members, prioritizing diverse representation.
  • Promote a culture of technical excellence, guiding teams in developing their software development methodologies and skills to deliver secure and stable code and systems.
  • Identify dependencies and collaborate with development teams to plan cross-team technical integrations.
Required Qualifications and Skills
  • Formal training or certification in software engineering concepts, along with extensive applied experience. Proven track record in leading technologists to manage and resolve complex technical challenges within your area of expertise.
  • Experience collaborating with product management teams to define and scope requirements.
  • Ability to mentor and guide teams towards achieving goals aligned with strategic initiatives.
  • Experience in recruiting, developing, and recognizing talent.
  • Practical experience with cloud-native technologies.
  • Proficiency in writing well-tested, secure, and maintainable code in Java or similar object-oriented programming languages.
  • Familiarity with developing RESTful web services using frameworks like Spring Boot.
  • Understanding of Test-Driven Development (TDD) and automated testing methodologies.
  • Strong grasp of coding best practices, Object-Oriented design principles, configuration management, and code refactoring.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
  • Experience working within an agile, cross-functional product team alongside user experience and product management professionals.
  • Experience with data-driven business intelligence systems and data visualization tools.
  • Experience managing large relational database systems such as PostgreSQL or Oracle, utilizing SQL.
  • Practical knowledge of containerized application development and deployment using tools like Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience in developing GraphQL APIs.
