Main Responsibilities

We are seeking a highly motivated and organized Library Assistant to join our team at GBS Global Applied Knowledge. As a key member of our Library team, you will play a vital role in supporting the development and delivery of high-quality library services to our students and staff.

  • Acquisitions and Resource Management

Administer the lifecycle of book acquisitions, journal and e-resource subscriptions, ensuring seamless access to relevant materials for our students and staff.

Library Systems and Support

Liaise with Library colleagues to maintain and develop library systems, supporting acquisitions and access, and contribute to the ongoing development of our library resources.

User Support and Enquiries

Provide exceptional customer service to a wide range of Library users, responding to loans, returns, fines, and basic and complex user enquiries via various channels.

Cataloguing and Classification

Work on the implementation of library resources by cataloguing and classifying printed material using MARC21 and LC classification systems.

IT Support and Training

Offer IT support to students, providing guidance and training on library resources and systems.

Project Participation and Process Improvement

Participate in project groups and contribute to operational process reviews, ensuring continuous improvement and enhancement of our library services.

Library Promotion and Outreach

Contribute to the promotion of the Library and its services through events and Library tours for new students, highlighting the value and benefits of our resources.

Administrative and Shelving Duties

Undertake daily shelving duties, maintaining the organization and accessibility of our library collections.

Maintenance and Repairs

Perform maintenance and simple repairs to books, projects, and other library materials, ensuring their continued usability and integrity.

Team Collaboration and Communication

Develop strong relationships with colleagues across teams, fostering a collaborative and supportive environment to ensure a high-quality service.

Requirements
  • Education and Experience

The successful candidate should hold a degree in Library Science or Information Management, or have equivalent experience working in Higher Education libraries.

Key Skills and Qualities

Good knowledge of cataloguing with MARC21, classification, and experience working with stakeholders such as EBSCO are essential. Additionally, excellent communication and organizational skills, customer service, and a keen interest in learning and ICT skills are equally important for this role.
