Main Responsibilities:
  • Conduct health needs assessments and screenings for children, providing prompt feedback and escalating concerns as necessary.
  • Participate in the planning, delivery, and evaluation of health promotion activities, utilizing evidence-based practice to support individuals, families, groups, and communities.
  • Contribute to the Early Help offer, supporting families to access additional support as required in line with the Early Help framework.
  • Contribute to the safeguarding of children at risk, adhering to appropriate Safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • Participate in and promote childhood immunization programs as appropriate.
  • Engage in the Trust's staff nurse development program and other related Trust-based learning opportunities.
  • Work within the NMC code of professional conduct.
  • Support Health Visiting Teams in the management of children with additional medical needs, completion of Educational & Health care plans, and preparing/supporting families for transition to education.
  • Deliver evidence-based packages of care for children in line with the BFS Standard Operational Procedures for Health Visiting and clinical pathways.
  • Liaise with other Multi-Disciplinary Teams to ensure effective communication across the teams to support the HV oversight and coordination of care.
  • Support the Health Visiting and Early Years teams to deliver Early Help intervention and complete Early Help Plans as required.
  • Keep accurate and contemporaneous electronic patient records for children and families in line with NMC requirements and the Trust's Record Keeping policies and guidelines.
  • Undertake clinical audits as directed by Health Visitor/Health Visitor Team Leader, supporting action plans according to findings.
  • Plan, organize, and run clinics to support the health and developmental needs of children as required.
  • Deliver care in a variety of settings, including children's centers, clinics, GP surgeries, and clients' homes, requiring lone working within the community setting.
  • Cooperate and assist in research and survey programs relating to the client group.
  • Participate in the teaching/training and assessment of support staff within the cluster and in the clinical placement of all learners, e.g., pre-registration.
Management and Leadership Responsibilities:
  • Comply with Birmingham Forward Steps policies, procedures, and guidelines, as well as relevant statutory and/or Department of Health directives.
Person Specification:
  • First-Level Registered Nurse
  • Evidence of relevant professional development post-nurse registration
  • RSCN/Child Branch or Learning Disabilities
Experience:
  • Ability to demonstrate sound knowledge and application of up to-date evidence-based clinical trends and practice.
  • Experience and ability to demonstrate an understanding of working with children and families in a clinical and/or community setting.
  • Evidence of recent professional development.
Skills:
  • Knowledge of current public health and issues pertinent to community children's services.
  • Ability to use software packages appropriate to clinical care.
  • Ability to demonstrate individual responsibility to health and safety.
  • Ability to recognize and understand equality and diversity issues.
  • Understanding of child protection procedures.
  • Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to any identified or potential concerns with a child's developmental or health needs.
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable in a changing NHS environment.
Other Job Requirements:
  • Ability to travel and attend conferences according to operational needs of the post.
