About LSTM's Centre for Childbirth, Women's, and Newborn Health

LSTM's Centre for Childbirth, Women's, and Newborn Health (CWNH), led by Prof Dame Tina Lavender, hosts a WHO Collaborating Centre for Research and Training jointly directed by Professor Charles Ameh. The Centre conducts applied global health research focusing on the health of women and newborns living in low- and middle-income countries, and on understanding systematic factors that shape health and are inherently global.

LSTM MNH researchers strive for a world where human rights that enable sexual and reproductive health are safeguarded, and access to quality healthcare is a reality for all.

Your Role: Shaping Global Maternal and Newborn Health

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Lead Researcher to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in advancing research initiatives that improve the health and well-being of mothers and newborns worldwide.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage cutting-edge research projects focused on maternal and newborn health issues.
  • Develop innovative research proposals and secure funding from diverse sources.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of researchers, clinicians, and policymakers.
  • Disseminate research findings through peer-reviewed publications, presentations at international conferences, and policy briefs.
  • Mentor and supervise junior researchers and students.
Qualifications and Experience:

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A PhD or equivalent in a relevant field such as Obstetrics/Midwifery, Applied Health Sciences, Behavioural Science, or Public Health.
  • Extensive knowledge of current research trends and best practices in maternal and newborn health.
  • Demonstrated experience in designing, conducting, and analyzing quantitative and qualitative research studies.
  • A strong track record of securing external funding for research projects.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
