Position Overview
The Liverpool Women's NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a dedicated and skilled Clinical Research Midwife to contribute to a pioneering research initiative aimed at enhancing the diagnosis and treatment of genetic disorders in newborns. This role is integral to a significant research project that explores the genetic makeup of infants to identify and address potential health issues at an early stage.
Project Background
This research initiative is supported by Genomics England and aligns with the objectives of the UK Government's health sector. The focus is on innovative approaches to understanding the impact of genetics on health outcomes.
Contract Details
This is a fixed-term position for a duration of 12 months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and project needs. Internal transfers may be considered, provided that prior approval is obtained from the relevant clinical line manager.
Key Responsibilities
The Clinical Research Midwife will play a vital role in the daily management of participant interactions and will collaborate closely with the study coordination team to ensure the successful execution of the research project. Key responsibilities include:
- Facilitating communication and education regarding the research project within the Trust.
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, including those from Genomics England.
- Providing guidance on the organization and oversight of ongoing research activities.
- Identifying and screening potential participants for the study.
- Assisting in the informed consent process and recruitment of research subjects.
- Working with colleagues to develop strategies to enhance participant recruitment.
- Acting as an advocate for patients, ensuring ethical considerations are prioritized.
- Maintaining comprehensive knowledge of the project protocol related to patient care, data collection, and safety reporting.
- Ensuring accurate record-keeping and managing data using appropriate software tools.
- Contributing to the dissemination and publication of research findings.
- Engaging in team activities, events, and training sessions.
- Promoting evidence-based practices in clinical settings while upholding high standards of patient care.
- Serving as a resource for local staff regarding the research project.
- Keeping relevant personnel informed about project progress.
- Staying updated on advancements in research and midwifery practices.
- Continuing professional development to maintain registration and clinical competence.
- Networking with other research midwives to share knowledge and support.
- Participating in local and national research meetings as required.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
- Registered Midwife with relevant qualifications.
- Proficient in computer skills, including MS Office.
- A minimum of two years of clinical midwifery experience, particularly in an intrapartum setting.
- Experience in liaising with healthcare professionals across various levels.
Desirable:
- University degree in a healthcare-related field.
- Postgraduate qualifications in Midwifery or Research.
- Experience in conducting or facilitating research or audits.
- Leadership experience in developing research projects and securing funding.
