The Binding Site, now part of Thermo Fisher Scientific, boasts a legacy of innovation in IVD assay and platform delivery. Our flagship product, Optilite, is a turbidimetric analyzer with over 40 IVDR/FDA-approved assays and a robust pipeline of new developments. We also offer EXENT, a cutting-edge MALDI-based system for identifying, characterizing, and quantifying monoclonal immunoglobulins in patients with monoclonal gammopathies. Our immunoassays are built upon a deep understanding of polyclonal antibody production, purification, and optimization, along with expertise in conjugating immunoglobulins onto latex microspheres.

To maintain our momentum of innovation and solidify The Binding Site's position as a leader in specialty protein measurements, we seek a dedicated Director of R&D Assay Development. This role will:

  • Lead, coach, and mentor the R&D Assay Development department, comprising R&D Managers and individual contributors.
  • Drive the completion of defined R&D goals and multi-generational project plans.
  • Develop and maintain tools for product development and ongoing care of diagnostic products.
  • Spearhead a coordinated product development process across functions, guiding the portfolio from concept to commercialization.
  • Ensure design ownership and compliance for all products developed within the department's framework.
  • Represent the company externally and engage with commercial/academic partners as needed.
  • Foster a culture of innovation throughout the organization, inspiring colleagues both within and outside the R&D sphere.
  • Serve as the voice of R&D among senior leadership.

Reporting to the VP, R&D at our UK location, this is an office-based position (4 days per week) with up to 50% travel requirement.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline or engineering, preferably with an MSc or PhD in immunology or biotechnology.

Experience

  • 10 years of relevant technical and leadership experience.
  • Proven experience in assay development for diagnostic tests within an IVD regulated environment.
  • Experience leading managers and managing budgets.
  • Demonstrated success in leading large projects from inception to launch.
  • A strong track record of innovation.
  • Proficiency in English (reading and technical writing).
