About the Research Group
The research group is dedicated to exploring the intricate molecular mechanisms behind infection and immunity related to apicomplexan parasites, which pose significant challenges to public health. The focus is on understanding pathogens that cause diseases such as malaria and cryptosporidiosis, utilizing a range of in vitro and in vivo models to simulate human infections. The laboratory employs advanced techniques including genetic manipulation, flow cytometry, high-resolution microscopy, and high-throughput screening.
Position Responsibilities
This role is pivotal within a strategic partnership aimed at advancing chemical biology approaches to identify therapeutic targets for various diseases. Responsibilities include:
- Leading multiple research initiatives independently, with strategic guidance from the group leader.
- Presenting research findings at group meetings, seminars, and scientific conferences.
- Documenting research outcomes for publication and managing revisions.
- Overseeing laboratory operations, including database management, supply procurement, budget monitoring, and equipment maintenance.
- Training and mentoring junior lab personnel in essential techniques and laboratory protocols.
- Collaborating with operational teams and participating in key meetings.
- Developing risk assessments and standard operating procedures while ensuring safety compliance.
- Providing support and collaboration for ongoing research projects.
- Managing long-term research investigations and partnerships with external researchers.
- Offering technical expertise for the development and optimization of methodologies.

Essential Qualifications
- PhD or equivalent in a relevant field with a minimum of 5 years of experience in a laboratory focused on parasitology.
- Proficient in culturing and maintaining malaria parasites, with experience in high biological safety environments.
- Demonstrated ability to independently lead exploratory drug discovery projects, including identifying lead candidates and testing their mechanisms of action.
- Strong communication skills to effectively liaise between diverse research teams.
- Experience in training and guiding junior researchers to foster successful project outcomes.
