We are seeking a highly skilled Laboratory Research Scientist to join our team at the Francis Crick Institute.
About the RoleThe successful candidate will be responsible for operating the specialized ancient DNA clean room facility, performing post-PCR and skeletal sample processing, and collaborating with other lab members on research projects.
Key Responsibilities- Collaborate with other lab members on research projects
- Provide experimental or technical support to other lab members
- Participate in academic activities, including group meetings and journal clubs, seminars, and scientific meetings
- Organize and manage the laboratory, including maintaining laboratory databases, ordering laboratory supplies, monitoring budgets, and routine maintenance of laboratory equipment
- Train and supervise other lab members in key techniques and protocols, lab operations, and equipment use
- Liaise with Science Operations and attend key quadrant meetings
- Write risk assessments and SOPs and provide safety guidance to lab members
- Organize and enable sequencing by liaising with the Advanced Sequencing Technology Platform core facility at the Crick
- Skeletal sample handling, shipping, and cataloguing
- Manual first molecular digestion step
- BSc in Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field, or equivalent experience
- Experience with molecular biology laboratory work
- Ability to communicate and present data
- Experience with the use of databases
- Experience with bioinformatics processing of genomic sequence data
